Animal Birth Control Programme

Animal Birth Control and Immunisation Programme (ABC)

Birth Control and Immunisation is the only humane and constructive solution to the problem of stray dogs.In order to control the population of stray dogs and bring down the instance of rabies, PFA DEHRADOON has been conducting this programme since March 2005 and has sterilised/immunised 1257 male/female stray dogs so far.

The focus is on the spaying of females as it brings immediate results and help control the population in the minimum possible time and therefore at PFA Dehra Doon, the ratio is 80:20.

PFA Dehra Doon has 99% success rate in its ABC Programme.

After a post operative care of approx 7-10 days the sterilised dogs are released in their respective localities with one ear marked with a Victory (V) sign to enable relocation.

On an average 8 out of every 10 puppies born on the roads die and the rest are forced to lead a miserable life.

Dogs are territorial animals and if they are sterilized ,vaccinated against rabies and fed they will not only lead healthy lives but also guard their respective area. At the same time many unwanted puppies will be prevented from coming on the roads.

PFA helps in getting these ‘Community Dogs ‘ sterilized. The only help required is the acceptance of these dogs by the community.

Even the pet owners inadvertently add to the stray dog population. If you own a female dog and allow her to have pups and also find homes for them do you think you have not added to the problem?Well, you have. The homes you find for your dogs could very well have been a home for the ones on the street.Apart from this the dogs who fail to get homes land up on streets. In India we have a sickening obsession for foreign breeds and therefore finding homes for Indian dogs is a Herculean task

Therefore it is equally important to get the street as well as pet male/female dogs sterilized. Over 90% of the dogs suffering from maggot infested wounds are males which is a result of their getting into fights over the females. The sterilized male dogs are less likely to roam and behave in an aggressive manner.

Sterilization is not expensive especially in the long run. GET YOUR PET STERILIZED. PFA provides the facility at very reasonable rates
