RELIEF
AND RESCUE WORK The PFA animal pick-up van brings the injured/ sick animals
to the Shelter. The In-door patients are released in their respective localities after the treatment. The very young and the very old and those incapable of surviving on their own are an exception. PFA has 80 plus animals, largely small,on campus at all times. On –site treament is also provided
and vaccination is done, areawise, against
rabies and the foot and mouth disease. Our volunteers form the backbone of the relief and rescue work
since PFA does not have a 24 hr. ambulance service in Dehra
Doon as yet. The details of the animal welfare work carried
out during the year 2005-06 is as follows.
a)
Sterelisation and Immunisation : 1072
b)
Indoor treatment (large/small) : 434
c)
Onsite (large/small) : 190
d)
OPD : 60
e)
Distance covered by PFA pickup van : 5331 kms (Rescue and Transportation) Abandoned and Alone. Animals are left at the PFA Shelter sometimes for treatment
but most of the times for good. There cannot be anything more heartbreaking than the
sight of an abandoned pet waiting for the return of his family members. Some leave their pet on the road ,with
the animal absolutely clueless about how to fend for himself ,being
used to taken care of. Contact an Animal Shelter if there is one in your town. If not, it would be kinder to put the suffering animal to sleep, harsh though it may sound, and
save him the misery of a life on the road especially at a time when
he needs you the most. We must learn to respect life and a little inconvenience should not deter us from doing what is morally right. |
