Who we are

People for Animals (PFA) is a registered charitable trust, founded by Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, with its registered office at 4-T, DCM Building, 16 Barakhamba Road, New Delhi 110001. For this website, PFA decides what is collected and why, so under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 it is the Data Fiduciary for what you send here.

What we collect

Only what you give, when you choose to give it:

  • Forms. Reporting cruelty, asking a question, volunteering, applying for a job, a membership, a colony caregiver card, an event, a campus society, a campaign, a partnership, a legacy enquiry or a request on this page. Each takes your name, a way to reach you (email, mobile or both) and what you write.
  • Photographs. Up to three with a cruelty report, and your own photograph with a caregiver card application, for the card. Please leave out faces and number plates unless they matter to the report.
  • Payments. For a donation, membership, card fee or shop order: the amount, what it is for, your name, contact details and, where needed, a postal address. A PAN, only if you give one for an 80G receipt. Card and bank details go to the payment provider, never to PFA.
  • A gift. If you give in someone's name: their name and where to send the certificate.
  • Replies. If you answer an email from PFA, your reply is filed with your submission, so the whole conversation is in one place.
  • A location, if you ask. Pressing "use my location" sends your position once, to fill in the address. It is not tracked.
What we do not collect
  • No advertising or analytics cookies, and no tracking pixels. The website sets no cookies of its own.
  • No record of what you type into search. The site counts which pages people open from search, as a number against the page, and nothing about who opened them.
  • No profile of you built from your visits. The visit counter in the footer is a single number.
  • Your network address is used for up to an hour to stop floods of automated submissions, and is stored only as a one-way scramble that cannot be turned back into the address.
Why we use it
  • To act on what you sent: pass a report to the right people, answer a question, consider an application, issue a card, a certificate or a receipt.
  • To reply to you, and to send the confirmation with your reference number.
  • To keep a true record of PFA's work, and of the money it receives, as the law asks of a charity.
  • To keep the site safe from abuse.

PFA relies on your consent, given when you send a form, and on the uses the law allows without it, such as keeping financial records or helping in an emergency. PFA does not send newsletters or appeals you did not ask for.

Who else handles it

Every submission is copied to PFA's office inbox. Beyond PFA, a few providers handle data, each only for its own part:

  • Google Cloud (Firebase) stores the submissions, photographs and the admin panel's records.
  • Vercel and Google Firebase host the website and the server that receives forms.
  • CCAvenue takes payments in India; your card or bank details stay with them.
  • PayPal takes gifts from outside India, and issues its own receipt.
  • PFA's mailbox, with a backup sender, sends confirmations, replies and the office copy of each submission.
  • OpenStreetMap, BigDataCloud and India Post turn a location or a pincode into an address, only when you ask.
  • YouTube and Vimeo play the films; YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it, or to act on a cruelty report.

Films sent to The Wall, and nominations to CineKind, may be shown publicly, as the form says before you send. Nothing else you send is published.

Where it is kept, and how it is protected
  • Submissions are read only by PFA staff signed in to the admin panel. Every change a staff member makes is written to an audit log.
  • Photographs and documents are kept in private storage that no browser can open; staff see them only through the signed-in admin panel.
  • Following a submission on the site needs both its reference number and the email or mobile it was sent with.
  • Connections to the site are encrypted. Some providers above may process data on servers outside India; PFA uses only providers bound to keep it secure.
How long it is kept
  • A submission is kept as PFA's record of the work, until you ask for it to be erased.
  • Payment and donation records are kept for as long as tax and charity law require, even if you ask otherwise.
  • A photograph uploaded for a caregiver card that is never paid for is deleted after a day.
  • The scrambles used against floods expire after an hour at most.
What your browser keeps

A few conveniences are saved in your own browser's storage, not on PFA's servers, and never sent anywhere: your shopping bag, your recent searches, the reference numbers you have followed, your reading place and settings in the library, your choices on The Wall and in the cinema player, and a half-filled caregiver application so it is not lost. Clearing your browser's site data removes them all.

Children

The forms are meant for adults. Anyone under 18 should ask a parent or guardian to send a form with them, or for them. If PFA learns it holds a child's details without that, it will erase them, except where they are needed to help an animal in danger.

Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you may ask PFA:

  • For a summary of what PFA holds about you, and who it was shared with.
  • To correct it, complete it, or bring it up to date.
  • To erase it, unless the law requires PFA to keep it.
  • To stop: withdraw your consent. What was done before stays lawful.
  • To hear a grievance, and to escalate it to the Data Protection Board of India.
  • To nominate someone to act for you if you die or cannot act yourself.

Make a request. PFA may confirm it is you first, and replies within the time the law sets.

Changes to this policy

When the site changes what it collects or why, this page changes first, with a new date at the top. A change that needs your consent again will ask for it.
